Sidewalk Chalk with "my boy"

Kale is into drawing with sidewalk chalk lately.

He even talked Sam into drawing some with him.  Kale loves Sam and calls him, "my boy".

The other day at preschool, Sam was there.  Kale introduced him to his friends.  He'd say, "this is Sammy (btw, he's the only one that can get away with calling him that) he's my uncle, he's my boy".
I love it!
Another thing Kale has learned to do is to fly down the hill on his trike.  He handles the stopping part very well.  It still makes Mimi nervous though.

Quiz Bowl Banquet

Our local chapter of the Rotary Club hosted the Nashville Scrapper Quiz Bowl team and their families for dinner Tuesday night. Tim and I were able to attend with Sam. It was an enjoyable evening.

I'm proud of Sam for his involvement and commitment to the quiz bowl team.

Floating on the Caddo

This weekend we took Rosey out again. This time we decided to take advantage of the predicted rain and do a float trip. We have not taken the kayaks out this season yet. It's just hard to find time for "fun".

IMG_0025

I did a little research and found a campsite on the river near the bridge in Glenwood. Samuel and I took the camper up when he got out of school on Friday. This was my first time taking Rosey out by myself. I have to tell you that Sam and I backed her in and set her up completely be ourselves!

IMG_0026

Tim followed us with the kayaks when he got off work. Walter joined us on Saturday.

IMG_0020

Our float on Saturday was cloudy and a bit cold. If you ask Sam, it was probably extremely cold, as he was the only one to fall in.

IMG_0017

The river level was up a little, enough for the float to be fun.

IMG_0029

We floated again on Sunday and the sun cooperated. The weather was warmer and the float much more enjoyable. I love this view!

IMG_0030

On our way down the river we saw 87 turtles (yes, we kept count), 2 snakes and one sweet little dog.

He was determined to follow us. And follow us, he did, for about 5 or 6 miles of our float. He would run along one side of the river until it would get impassable, then he would swim to the other side and keep following us. There were a few times he would just bail off into the river and swim after us. I felt sorry for him and finally just pulled him into my kayak where he would ride for a while. Then after he rested, he would jump out and run along beside us again. Sam and I named him Pumpernickel, Nick for short. He followed us to our campsite where he was rewarded with a bowl of leftover scrambled eggs and sausage. After a nap in the sun and a good head scratch, he was on his way, wherever that might be. Good luck, Nick.

Jefferson Ridge

How in the world did I miss blogging about this?

The first weekend in April, we took Rosey out for her second voyage. We camped for the weekend (April 3-5) at Jefferson Ridge at Dierks Lake. It was a lovely area.

Tim brought the boat. He and Walter spent a lot of time fishing. Sam and I just enjoyed.

Untitled

Mom and Trista visited us for the day on Saturday. We introduced Trista to the game Yahtzee. She loved it. After winning, she was declared the Yahtzee princess.

Untitled

There was only one casualty. Tim dropped his phone in the lake! Luckily it was in a shallow area. He jumped in quickly and retrieved it. By chance, I happened to have a bag of rice in the camper. A lucky break! After 24 hours in the rice bag, his phone lived again.

Sam and I enjoyed time on our bikes. You may notice Sam is sporting his new cruiser bike.

Untitled

Our camper is small but can sleep four people, barely! When those four people are all adult size, like my crew is, that camper gets a bit cramped. We tried something new this time and brought our tent for the boys. It was a wonderful for all of us!

And of course, no post about camping would be complete without a picture of my grillmaster!

A wonderful trip. I'm sure we will be visiting Jefferson Ridge again soon.

Band Banquet 2013

This is a horrible picture, but I had to post it. It is the only one I got of all three.

Untitled

Katelyn and Samuel were each other's dates for the banquet. They are such close friends and have been for so long.

I love this picture of them from years ago.

Katelyn and Samuel today.

Fair Pictures #2

One of the rides that Samuel and I loved was called the Super Shot. It slowly took you to the top, which was wayyyyy up there! The basically, dropped you! Fun, fun!

I handed Tim my stuff, which included my camera.

This is my "why are taking my picture" face.

IMG_7553

We did get some really cool pictures though. Some taken by Tim, some by me.

An Early Morning Ride

This time of year makes for some beautiful mornings. I woke Samuel early Saturday and told him I wanted to go on a bike ride. He jumped at the invitation. I love that my fifteen year old son, not only is willing to, but is thrilled to jump out of bed at the drop of a hat, at 7 am on a Saturday morning to ride bikes with his mom! It made my whole day!

We rode our usual 4 mile route and were rewarded with this sunrise view.

Beautiful morning for a bike ride!

So worth getting up and out early!

My New Hobby

Our family has a new hobby. I alluded to it earlier.

IMG_0149

We are now a family of bicyclers.

IMG_0152

Jamie and I bought cruisers. The boys and Tim have mountain bikes.

IMG_0154

Not that we have any mountains to climb, literally speaking. I, personally, would rather cruise through life. LOL

IMG_0155

But I do know this, I'm excited about my new hobby. This kind of exercise doesn't seem so much like exercise. I feel like I'm in training. In training for several trips in the future, where I will take my bikes along. I can't wait!

A Ride to the Lake

Samuel and I decided to take an evening ride to our city lake. It was a beautiful evening to be out.

IMG_7510

The best thing about the evening was how we got there!

IMG_7512

This is our newest hobby. We bought bicycles. Samuel, Jamie and I all have new bikes. I'm loving mine. It's vintage, like me. No gears. To apply the brakes you just press the pedals back. It's simple.

I have two trips planned next year that I want to take my bike. One is to New Orleans, the other to the beach! I cannot wait!!! But in the meantime, I have to put in lots of riding time so I can enjoy my bicycle trips.
